How long have you been participating in Timbersports competitions?

The first competition I took part was in 2013.

How did you get started in Timbersports?

I started taking an interest whilst at college. After some years participating in smaller wood chopping competitions I moved on to competing at a higher level.

What is your training regime leading up to the Stihl TIMBERSPORTS® World Championships?

I spend at least 10 hours a week training, which includes three days gym training, two days technical training and one day with a sports coach.

What is your favourite Stihl TIMBERSPORTS® discipline and why?

Springboard: You really have to be a good athlete to do this discipline right. Strength, condition and technique all coming together.

What advice would you give to someone considering taking part in Timbersports?

The first thing that is important to consider is that it really is a professional sport. It is a really tough sport, but the joy and friendship in this sport is the best in the world. So when you get addicted to this sport there is no turning back!

You’re a professional Tree Surgeon but many Timbersport competitors are not in the same profession. Do you think this is an advantage?

Timbersports is a sport anyone can take part. It is a real advantage if you are mentally and physically strong so working in trees gives you that little bit extra.

Could any tree surgeon take on Timbersports?

Yes. If they attend a training camp organised by Stihl, a tree surgeon could qualify for the Stihl TIMBERSPORTS® Training Programme. And after that it will take a lot of training but if you stick with it and you are motivated, anything is possible!

You’re a Timberwolf Owner. Why did you chose a Timberwolf Wood Chipper for your business?

I have had a Timberwolf TW 230DHB for many years now and in my opinion it has been a great investment for my business. It’s clear to me it has been built by a company that understands the needs of a tree surgeon. Its design makes it easy to maintain and its sub 750KG weight means any of my workers can tow it behind their vehicle. It’s even light enough to be pulled by hand across a garden.

What I most like about it is that you can see and feel that it is made to work fast. It gets the job done in no time!
